Oh yes, I know that I've had this blog for some time now and that more and more people are starting to discover it, but I got bored of it's usability.
I want to blog faster and more intuitive. I'm not into writing personal stories or publishing novels. I don't need fancy designs, advertising or crappy sidebar plugins. I just want to share what I like with the people that I like.

I tried out a few blogging sites and softwarez; and after a couple of weeks testing and bloggin' I decided to go for Posterous.
Here I can post a new blog item just by sending a simple email to my account or I can use the Firefox plugin and publish a post while browsing. I love it, it's simple, it's clean and just right for me. Plus I can link my posts with my Facebook and Twitter account. So expect to see some # or @ in the title as this is for my tweetfeed.

De jonge gastjes in deze videoclip voor Maximus, de nieuwe single van Beni, schudden de vetste moves uit hun mouwen en benen. Vergeet Tektonik, deze mix van MJ moves, poppin', breakin' en hullahooping is super vet! Waarom heeft StuBru eigenlijk deze funky track nog niet opgepikt?

De videoclip werd geregistreerd door de Australiërs van Moopjaw, eerder ook al verantwoordelijk voor deze retro videoclip van Miami Horror.

Liu Bolin is een kunstenaar uit Bejing die snel bekend geworden is als The invisible man. In zijn "camouflage" kunstwerken slaagt hij erin om zijn eigen lichaam als kameleon te beschilderen waardoor hij volledig in de achtergrond verdwijnt. Het idee hiervoor is zeker niet nieuw, maar Liu doet dit met een ongelooflijke precisie! Hij werkt soms bijna 10 uur aan één foto. Soms kun je hem maar net zien tussen de achtergrond zoals bulldozers, vlaggen, gebouwen, graffiti,... Zijn inspiratie komt van zijn gevoel als 'social outcast'.

ART & COPY is a new documentary film about advertising and inspiration; directed by Doug Pray ( SCRATCH, HYPE!), and reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time.
It will probably never make the big screen in Belgium, but we can enjoy the trailer for now and order the DVD in some months.

The developers of Boffswana take augmented reality one step further with this new development of a AR-driver dj mixer for Wrigley 5 gum
As part of the brand's "Stimulate Your Senses" campaign, the challenge from the client was "to produce a sensorial experience online" The result is create the 5 Mixer, which turns visitors into virtual DJs through a set of three different "flavor-inspired" orbs. Once three base tracks have been selected, users can modify the audio being played through the simultaneous use of three controlling Glyphs downloadable off the 5gum site.

I can see many possibilities for future AR applications. I wonder how long it will take for a big music band or artist to release the first AR videoclip? Imagine a band like Gorillaz, Daft Punk or Justice playing on your desk while you get to control the mixing of the song. Hey creative videoclip directors, what are you waiting for!

UPDATE: For the launch of their new album Temporary Pleasure, Simian Mobile Disco has created an Augmented Reality Experience in the form of a temporary installation/ popup store in Carnaby Street, London starting from Mon. 17th Aug. "The installation reflects the concepts behind the record - it's brief, fun, and how could we miss the chance to augment the reality of the general public. So I've spotted a trend: The animated music video! I wished all music video's were like this!

Firstly, the official video for The parachute Ending, the best track on the Birdy Nam Nam album (maybe because it was produced by Justice).
The animation for the videoclip by Will Sweeny is fantastic!!! This is the space-age psychedelic graphic style that's so hot right now, with huge influences from some of my favorite comic books: Moebius Incal or Enki Bilal's Nikopol trilogy.

Also releasing a dope animated video is Major Lazer! The new project of Diplo & Switch who are trying to relaunch jamaican dancehall to a 2009 rave crowd. Check out the clip for Hold the Line (feat. vocals by Lexx and Santigold) below. Looks like a late 80's toy commercial with animation heavily influenced by cartoons such as Thundercats or GI Joe.

I know this has been going all around the blogosphere since yesterday, but it's too good not too mention it. Dutch favorite, Parra Soundsystem featuring Parra, Mr.Wix & Tom Trago, have just released a nice compilation called Edit Niaf - The Art Of Partying (download link).
It features 19 diverse re-edits of disco & dance classics. The tracklist is not giving away much information about the original artists; but I do recognise tracks from Ram Jam, Man Parrisch & Abba. Great party stuff!
Obviously the artwork for the mix was done by Parra.

Alsof zijn fabric live nog niet vet genoeg was, komt A-trak deze maand met zijn Infinity+1 mix (download)! Check zijn introductiefilmpje hierboven, er is zelfs een Infinity+1 tumblr page voor gemaakt.
Persoonlijk vind ik deze mix beter balanced & mixed dan zijn fabriclive, waar het soms wat scheef ging maar waar wel meer power in zat. Wel spijtig dat deze voormalig hiphop turntable wizard niet wat meer van zijn scratch skills laat horen.

Na de rel van vorig jaar in het fotomuseum is Louis Paul Boon's Fenomenale Feminatheek dan nu toch te zien in Antwerpen. Of toch een klein deel ervan. En dit alles 10 dagen lang in de La Riva. Meer info hier

Maar bespaar u echter de moeite en de 5€ inkom! Ik ben naar de "exclusieve" openingsavond (lees: met BV's) geweest en het trok gewoon op niks!
De selectie is veel te klein om een impact te hebben, en daarom lijkt het nu echt gewoon op wat vieze prentjes bij elkaar. Zo krijgt deputé Ludo Helsen nog gelijk...
Ook de opstelling van de tentoonstelling helpt niet echt want die is ronduit amateuristisch en het geheel heeft ook een heel foute omkadering. Yes I'm back from the Swiss Alpes! Zermatt was really great! Fresh powder snow, great sunny weather al week, but freezing cold! The mountain slopes are real nice, wide open, with lots of off-piste possibilities. It's a huge skiable area with top-notch ski-lifts, trains & tunnels! And it's possible to cross the mountains over the glacier and ski down to Cervina in Italy.
A great village too, only accessible by a train, local transportation is done by electric (golf)carts, the streets are covered with snow...

But what was the coolest is the many animals that you see in the Swiss mountains! Lots of birds, mountain goats, deer, ... The last day we took the final run down thru the woods when suddenly a female deer jumped out of the woods from the left, she ran before me on the path for 200 meters and then disappeared on the right in the woods again. I could almost touch the animal! What a nice way to end my final run of this holiday!

Below is the trailer for Objectified, the forthcoming documentary feature film about industrial design by Gary Hustwit (premièring in March 2009).
It’s about the manufactured objects we surround ourselves with, and the people who make them. It’s about the world of creativity behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets, featuring some of the world’s most influential industrial designers including Jonathan Ive (Apple, California), Chris Bangle (BMW Group, Munich) and Dieter Rams (Kronberg, Germany) amongst many others.

Just like the Beautiful Losers film this documentary will be presented next year on a tour of film festivals, museums and other special occasions. Maybe an idea for a collaboration between the Ghent Design Museum and the next Ghent film festival?

Beautiful Losers

I've been a fan of Beautiful Losers Exhibit for a while now! It's one of the most relevant exhibition when you talk about street art and DIY culture of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti.
I was lucky to see the show when it was in the Tri-Postal in Lille, France two years ago. With our organisation M-A-F we tried to gather the budget to bring the exposition to Belgium, but sadly the cultural budgetary council decided otherwise.

Those who missed the exhibit can now enjoy the spirit of Beautiful Losers in an feature film documentary about the exhibit and this group of artists and their cultural influence on a generation. Check out the film-trailer below.

The film is being presented with screenings in cultural centres across the US, and apparently they are coming to Europe later this year. Currently confirmed cities are Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Tallinn,... but sadly NO Belgian dates again! Although I'm sure it will gather a big crowd as the Ed Templeton exhibition at Tim Van Laere Gallery proved last year.

The screenings in the US were accompanied by MAKE SOMETHING, a series of community and youth-oriented creative workshops in collaboration with Nike. The workshops were hosted by renowned artists from the Beautiful Losers “do-it-yourself” art subculture, which include Ed Templeton, Tobin Yelland, Geoff McFetridge, Shepard Fairey, Mike Mills, Todd James, Cheryl Dunn, Kaws, Mr. Cartoon and Aaron Rose. The London Transportation Department held a contest to redesign the iconic Double Decker bus. The winning entry shown above is designed by renowned architects Foster + Partners! They’ve created a zero-emissions, super accessible, and environmentally innovative double decker bus that heralds a new era of sustainable public transportation for London!

What a nice product design for an architectural office! A shame that Axel Enthoven missed the boat; to busy being the jury of bad TV-shows I guess?

Great, vandaag de laatste halve werkdag van het jaar! Maandag ontdekte ik dat ik nog een halve vakantiedag overhad, dus heb ik die meteen voor deze middag opgenomen. Nu kan ik nog op mijn gemak nog een last minute shopping doen en dan in de namiddag zijn we richting de vlaanders voor het Kerst dinner.
Bij deze alvast een prettige kerst gewenst aan iedereen! Goed eten en drinken, en geniet van de kadokes.

Last week an elderly, strange looking woman rang at my door, asking me money for the operation of her daughter. 'Everybody in the street already gave me 5 euros' she quickly added! I politely told her to go away because her story about the illness of her daughter was completely fake, she had no pictures, id-card or documents of her daughter and worst of all she reeked of alcohol! It's sad how she used such a story to hussle some booze money.

Today I received a mail from one of my favourite Belgian artists Ephameron about Sarah, a deaf Belgian girl who needs ear surgery. In contrast to my story above this fund-raising is done very creatively and with a lot of support.

Sarah was born almost deaf and recently got a cochlear implant in her right ear, which helps her hear sounds she never realized existed. The second implant, in her left ear, has been scheduled for 2009, but since medical insurance will only cover the first operation, she'll have to pay the full 25.000 euro bill all by herself...
To help her out, 100 artists from around the world joined forces to realize a publication called "Sarah magazine" and donate the full proceeds to her operation.

Sarah magazine costs 15 euro (worldwide postage included) and is a 96-page black/magenta/white A5 publication on recycled paper with full-colour cover with a limited edition of 1000 copies featuring illustrations by 100 international artists. "Swaffelen is de manier om de vrouw (of man, zoals enkele dubieuze figuren verkiezen) van je dromen tot nieuwe ongekende hoogtes en fabuleuze genotsmomenten te stuwen. Alleen mannen kunnen deze erotische uiting beoefenen (vrouwen ook, mits in het bezit van hulpmiddelen)."
Het swaffelen staat of valt met een belangrijke factor. De swaffelaar moet in het bezit zijn van een zogenaamde topzware penis. Dit wil zeggen dat de penis niet geheel stijf moet zijn, maar echter ook niet slap. Topzwaar is een toestand waarbij de penis ongeveer horizontaal hangt, en het mogelijk is om met de penis te zwaaien.
Neem dan het te beswaffelen object (bij voorkeur vrouwenbil/been/borst) en sla daar licht kletsend tegenaan. Sla niet te hard met het oog op blauwe plekken/ gebroken benen.

Wtf??? Een goeie 57 procent van de 16.000 stemmers hebben het woord op één gezet! Verder nog in de top 10: smirten, hufterindex, horroropa, ... Ik kan me toch de indruk niet ontdoen dat dit nogal een 'Hollandse' lijst is. Misschien volgend jaar eens een Vlaamse top 10 brengen?

In 1983 Greg Wilson was the first dj to mix records live on British Television. It was featured on Channel 4 in the musical show The Tube presented by Jools Holland. His first comment on Greg's mixing is really funny: "You get records and actually change and play them; don't quite understand yet how it's done; but you think that might annoy the people making the record?" Nowadays this seems a hilarious question, but back then for many viewers the appearance on ‘The Tube’ was the first time they’d come across mixing – it was a totally new concept to them!

Greg Wilson is a legendary dj ever since the disco days. He introduced electric-funk to Europe and was the first dj in the legendary Hacienda club in Manchester. He is renowned for his live disco edits & dubs performed on a Revox B77 Reel to Reel tape recorder! He still uses this when he dj's these days, which is an amazing thing to see in this digital age.

What would you do when water floods the town square? In Venice they begin to Wakeboard:

Everything happened at the speed of light on Tuesday: just a few minutes after 11 a.m., the high-water mark had reached 1.35 metres, equivalent to a good half metre of water covering St. Mark's Square.
Duncan Zuur's team pulled a compact, 20 horsepower motor winch from its hiding place and placed it under the square's arches. One team member, clad in rubber boots, pulled the winchs cable about 120 metres across the square and pressed one end firmly into the hand of Duncan Zuur, who had taken the opportunity to get into his wakeboarding gear. Four elegant turns later, the event was over prompting by a standing ovation from an astounding crowd of tourists.

Arkitip iPhone sleeve by Parra

Another reason to upgrade my current iPhone. Dutch artist Parra created a custom design Sleeve for MacBook Pro 15” and a Parra Slider Case for the iPhone 3G. He also created a small video to explain the collaboration and his inspiration for the designs.

His designs are part of the second instalment of Curated by Arkitip: "a project designed for Incase, aimed at delivering artistically embellished Apple products to users who have an appreciation for the creative arts and technology. All artists are carefully chosen by Arkitip for dedication to their respective art forms and unique points of view."
